Thrift store shopping is really easy and a great way to add staple and sometimes vintage items to your wardrobe for less. I hope after you read these tips you will no longer fear the almighty thrift shop and can start collecting great staple items and maybe even something a little unusual for your ever expanding wardrobe. It’s the thrill of the hunt guys, so put on your high heels and lipstick and get ready!
1. Get in the mood. Goodwill and thrift shops are the same as any other unorganized store like TJMaxx or Ross, you have to be in the mood to sift through the stuff. If you are not in the mood to spend the time looking then you most definitely will not find anything of real value.
2. Don’t get overwhelmed. It is easy to walk into a thrift store and immediately feel anxious and overwhelmed. Well just pull your paper lunch sack out of your purse and take a couple breaths! Don’t be overwhelmed, you aren’t searching through or buying the whole place! You’re just looking for a few items! It’s just like searching for buried treasure. You have to dig a little to find your prize!
3. Be picky. Don’t try to pick up or look at every item of clothing on the rack. Do you ever catch a certain color or pattern out of the corner of your eye in the store and you are immediately drawn to it? It’s the same principle with thrift shopping. If you pick up every item of clothing you would be at the store for hours and lets face it…ain’t nobody got time for that. When you are thrift shopping only pick up what colors or patterns jumps out at you!
4. Don’t be judgmental. Don’t judge an item you pick up for what it looks like on the hanger! You have to envision that item for what it can be when paired correctly! If you buy something that you think you like and it ends up crashing and burning then what have you really lost? Maybe five dollars at the most. To quote Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!” (Ok maybe not that last part, but you get the idea). 😉
So after all those useful tips that I know you are going to use 😉 , I love this plaid skirt. It is just so different and unique! If I wouldn’t get weird looks I would wear it everyday. Just pair it with a cute denim top, bold jewelry, bone colored heels (these are awesome shoes!) and you have a look that everyone would believe you spend a fortune on. I would absolutely love to see how you pair your unique thrift store finds! Tag me on Instagram (@audge0807) so I can see your lovely outfits! Also don’t forget about the Moorea Seal promo code (AUDREYBLOG) for 10% off your purchases! Ok I have talked to much already. Until the next outfit 🙂
